Folding Uprights for Transporting Kayaks

The Thule Kayak Support 520-1 is a pair of folding uprights that attach to car roof racks for carrying multiple kayaks and sit on tops on their sides. Most roof rack bars are not wide enough to transport multiple kayaks side by side unless the kayaks are "on edge" i.e. on their sides. The 520-1 uprights enable you to securely transport 2 kayaks side by side.

With most roof bars, transporting kayaks on edge will also leave space for a narrow roof box or bike carriers.

When not in use the upright bars can be folded flat to reduce overall vehicle height and wind resistance. (This is particularly useful if your local car parks have height barriers). The uprights are secured in the upright or flat position by a couple of tri-wing nuts on each bar.

Supplied as a pair of uprights. The Thule 520-1 Kayak support comes with with a T-track adapter so that it can be fitted directly to the 20mm wide T-track profile used on the Thule Aero, Wing and Slide Bars. One pair of 2.75m Thule roof rack straps is supplied with the Thule Kayak Support. If you are carrying two kayaks, you will need a second pair of straps.

Notes: If you are loading kayaks onto standard plastic coated bars, we recommended fitting roof bar pads for extra grip and padding. T Track bars e.g. WingBar have a rubber strip that does this without the need for additional padding although the padding can make it a bit easier to load the kayaks.
